Ragasco pioneers circular solutions for composite LPG cylinders
Oct 23, 2025
RAUFOSS, NORWAY (October 23, 2025) - Ragasco, a business of Worthington Enterprises, is proud to announce a strategic initiative that will help ensure nearly all waste from its manufacturing process of composite cylinders is recovered and reintroduced into new value chains. Beginning Q4 2025, Ragasco will send its composite waste to a thermal recycling facility operated by Gjenkraft AS.
The effort is part of Ragasco’s broader sustainability strategy, supported by life-cycle assessments (LCA) and environmental product declarations (EPD) that document the environmental performance of its products. With this advancement toward a circular solution, Ragasco is taking a concrete step toward reducing waste, recovering resources and driving circularity within the composite industry.
Idun Fridtun, general manager, Ragasco, says: “Sustainability has always been at the top of our agenda, and we remain committed to leading the industry forward. Gjenkraft is the first global player to thermally recycle composite materials. As a producer of composite LPG cylinders, we take responsibility for the entire lifecycle. This proves that circular economy solutions are possible even for challenging materials like composites. We lead in areas that matter.”
Gjenkraft recently secured NOK 60 million in funding to establish its first commercial-scale recycling plant in Høyanger, Norway. The facility will have a processing capacity of up to 2,800 tonnes per year and represents a breakthrough in composite recycling at industrial scale. Using a thermal recycling process, Gjenkraft can recover high-quality glass and carbon fibers, resins and other by-products, enabling these materials to be reused in applications such as building materials, fiber-reinforced plastics and 3D printing filaments. In addition to its Norwegian operations, Gjenkraft has further market expansion plans and to develop additional processing capacity in Europe.
Marcin Rusin, CEO, Gjenkraft adds: “Partnering with Ragasco allows us to apply our technology to a new product category and demonstrate how thermal recycling can turn challenging waste streams into valuable raw materials. This marks a turning point of how the industry approaches composite materials.”
